Blog Title: “Revolutionizing Apple Silicon: How Fedora Asahi Linux Outperforms in the Race for Linux Compatibility”

Asahi Linux developers have been tirelessly working to bring GNU/Linux to Macs with Apple Silicon, with their eyes set on outranking other operating systems. After initial attempts using Arch Linux ARM, the team has now launched their flagship operating system, Fedora Asahi Remix, based on the renowned Fedora OS.

Despite a slight delay, the long-awaited release of Fedora Asahi Remix is finally here. While there were plans to launch in August, the saying “better late than never” certainly holds true. According to the latest news from Fedora Magazine, the first version of the newly launched Fedora Asahi Remix is based on Fedora 39 and comes with KDE Plasma as the default user interface. However, users also have the option to switch to GNOME if desired. Both interfaces use Wayland as the display compositor, with added support for X11 apps thanks to XWayland.

One of the major highlights of this operating system is its inclusion of hardware-accelerated graphics, made possible by Asahi’s groundbreaking work in reverse engineering Apple’s GPU architecture. With an OpenGL ES 3.1 compliant driver, the system also offers non-compliant support for OpenGL 3.3.

Although Fedora Asahi Linux is compatible with most Macs powered by Apple M1 and M2 processors, not all hardware is currently supported. For instance, Thunderbolt and USB4 functionality may not work on most models, while features like Touch ID, built-in mics, and iMac speakers are also not supported. Additionally, USB-C displays are not yet compatible.
